I found a little more information to add to an article I wrote a couple of months ago. This one gives an estimate for a 500 yd meteor (meter) slamming the earth. And it get's the holy samolians from me. 60,000 megatons of energy released in seconds.

The ozarks are a strange formation to have in an otherwise unblemished giant plain. I supposit that it is a possible anti-podal region which if it is should indicate an extremely large crater on the opposite side of the earth.




In our imagined course of events, an asteroid with a diameter between 4- and 500 meter, explode on the bottom of the northern part of the North Atlantic Ocean, between Great Britain and Canada 2,000 kilometres from Western Europe. It comes with a speed of maybee 30 kilometres per second (the average speed of asteroids are very likely rather more than 20 kilometres per second).3 with an energy of 60,000 megaton.One of the results will be a number of impactwaves with a height between 50 and 100 meter 1,000 kilometres from the impactcentre. The height of such a wave decrease inversely proportional to the distance from where it originated. I also had the good fortune to find some data to sate the amateur physicist in me.From this I can now get a general rough estimate of the velocity that a star like unto a mountain may be traveling at the time of impact. That would be 40,000mp/hr or 60,000km/hr for the rest of you.
